The short version
- AskJev helps game developers find YouTube and Twitch creators whose recent coverage fits their game. It is in beta.
- To use it you create an account with your email address and a password. We use your email to verify it is yours and to send account emails, such as password resets. We do not send newsletters or marketing.
- The game descriptions, links and notes you give AskJev are used to research creators for you. To do that, parts of them are sent to our AI and search providers. We send each provider only what its step needs, and OpenAI does not train its models on data sent through its API.
- AskJev also works with public information about creators from YouTube and Twitch, including business contact details that creators publish. If you are a creator, see If you are a creator.
- AskJev uses YouTube API Services. By using AskJev you also agree to the YouTube Terms of Service, and Google's Privacy Policy applies to the data YouTube provides.
- There are no advertising cookies or third-party analytics. AskJev sets a sign-in cookie and, if you arrived through a partner link, a cookie that remembers which link.
- You can delete your account from your account page at any time, and ask us for a copy or deletion of your data at games@warweaverstudios.com.

What we collect, and why
Your account
When you sign up we collect your email address and a password. We store only a secure, one-way hash of the password, never the password itself. We also record when you signed up, whether you have verified your email, and your beta status: whether you entered an invite code (we record which invitation it came from, not the code itself) or joined the waitlist for the open beta.
- Why: to create and secure your account, confirm the email address is yours, let you sign in, reset your password, and manage access to the beta and the waitlist.
- Legal basis (GDPR): providing the service you asked for (Article 6(1)(b)).
- Kept for: as long as you have an account. When you delete it, it is removed straight away, and from backups within 14 days.
We send you emails only about your account: verifying your address, resetting your password, and news about your beta access or the waitlist.
What you give AskJev about your game
To research creators, you give AskJev information about your game: a description, links such as your Steam page, your edits to the game profile AskJev builds, and your shortlists, notes and outreach drafts.
- Why: to understand your game and find creators whose coverage fits it, and to keep your research so you can come back to it.
- Legal basis (GDPR): providing the service you asked for (Article 6(1)(b)).
- Kept for: as long as you have an account, or until you delete it.
Please do not put personal information about other people, or anything confidential you are not allowed to share, into game descriptions or notes.
To do this work, AskJev sends parts of your game information to service providers:
- your game description and Steam text go to our AI providers to build a game profile, classify your game, and draft outreach messages;
- search terms derived from your game go to YouTube and Twitch to find creators.
We send only what each step needs. See Who we share data with.
Signing in and security
When you use AskJev our server processes technical information that every browser sends: your IP address, browser type, the page requested and the time.
- Why: to deliver the service, keep you signed in, and protect AskJev and its users against abuse, for example by limiting how many sign-in attempts or searches can come from one place.
- Legal basis (GDPR): our legitimate interest in running a secure service (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Kept for: server logs up to 14 days. The counters used to limit abuse store your IP address or email only in scrambled (hashed) form, and are deleted within a few days.
Which link brought you here
If you open AskJev through a partner or community link (for example one with ?ref= in the address), we remember which link it was for 30 days and, if you sign up, record it with your account.
- Why: to understand which communities our beta testers come from, so we know where AskJev is useful.
- Legal basis (GDPR): our legitimate interest in measuring our own beta (Article 6(1)(f)).
- Kept for: 30 days in your browser; with your account for as long as you have one.
It is only the name of the link. We do not track you across other websites.
When you send feedback or email us
If you use Feedback in AskJev or write to games@warweaverstudios.com, we receive your email address, the topic and your message. Feedback sent from AskJev also includes the page you were on, your browser type, and, if you are signed in, your account ID and the invitation your beta access came from, so we can reproduce problems. It arrives in our inbox as an email, and we send you a confirmation with a copy of your message (at most one a day to the same address). AskJev does not keep a copy. We use it to reply and to improve AskJev, and keep it for up to 2 years after our last exchange.
If you are a creator
AskJev helps developers find creators. To do that it uses information creators have made public on YouTube and Twitch:
- channel names, IDs and descriptions;
- public video and stream details, such as titles, descriptions, games played, dates and view counts;
- business contact details that you publish in your channel description or on your own website, such as a business email address.
AskJev analyses this information to describe what kinds of games a channel covers, and shows developers channels that may fit their game, with the public evidence behind each suggestion.
- Why: to help developers find creators whose coverage fits their game, and so contact the right people rather than sending mass mail.
- Legal basis (GDPR): our legitimate interest, and the developers' interest, in finding relevant creators using information published for that purpose (Article 6(1)(f)). We collect only public information, and we do not buy creator data from data brokers.
- Where it comes from: the YouTube Data API, the Twitch API, and pages on your own website that you link from your channel.
- Kept for: data from YouTube and Twitch is refreshed or deleted within 30 days. Business contact details found on websites are checked again or deleted within 30 days.
AskJev does not send messages to creators. Developers who use AskJev decide whether to contact you, and are responsible for how they do it.
Examples on our website. To show how AskJev works, our website may show a real search result: a creator's channel name, a link to the channel, and the titles and dates of public videos that supported the suggestion. It is a factual example, not an endorsement by the creator. If you are featured and would rather not be, email us and we will remove it.
You can object at any time. Email games@warweaverstudios.com with your channel link. We will stop showing your channel and contact details and mark them so they are not collected again.
If you submitted your details to AskJev yourself, we use them as you asked, and you can withdraw them at any time with the edit code you received. We then delete them.
Storage on your device
askjev_sessioncookie (necessary). Keeps you signed in, and keeps a guest session working before you sign in. It holds a random token only. It expires after 7 days, or after 24 hours without use.askjev_refcookie. Set only if you open AskJev through a partner link. Remembers which link, for 30 days. See Which link brought you here.- Search view settings (necessary). Your filter and sort choices for each project, in your browser's local storage. They never leave your browser.
AskJev loads no scripts, fonts or images from other companies, and uses no advertising, social media or analytics cookies.
Who we share data with
We do not sell or rent personal data, and we do not share it for advertising. We use a small number of service providers who process data only to run AskJev:
- Hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH (Germany), which runs our server. The server is in Finland.
- Email: Google (Google Workspace, United States), which sends account emails and hosts our inbox.
- AI analysis: OpenAI (United States), which receives game descriptions and Steam text to build game profiles and draft outreach messages, and public creator information for those drafts. We use its API with storage turned off, under OpenAI's data processing terms, and OpenAI does not use API data to train its models.
- Game classification: TypeSafe, which runs the Jev classification model and receives game information and public video details to classify games.
- Creator search: Google (YouTube Data API) and Twitch receive search terms derived from your game, never your account details. Steam receives the app IDs you give us, to read public store pages.
We may also disclose information if Japanese or other applicable law requires it, or to protect our rights, our users or the public.
Where your data is processed
We are based in Japan. Our server is in Finland, in the European Union. Google and OpenAI are based in the United States, and other providers may process data outside Japan and the European Union.
- Japan has an adequacy decision from the European Commission. Personal data from the EU is handled under the Supplementary Rules that come with that decision.
- For Google and OpenAI, transfers are covered by their data processing terms, including the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and, where they take part, the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. For other providers, we rely on their contractual data protection commitments.
- For people in Japan: we take the steps APPI requires when a foreign service provider handles data for us, including understanding the data protection systems of the countries involved (Finland and the European Union, the United States and Japan).
How long we keep it
- Your account and your projects: until you delete your account. Removed straight away, and from backups within 14 days.
- Sign-in sessions: up to 7 days.
- Server logs: up to 14 days.
- Abuse-prevention counters: a few days.
- Backups: 14 days, on our server.
- Public creator data from YouTube and Twitch: refreshed or deleted within 30 days.
- Emails: up to 2 years after our last exchange.
When the beta ends we will tell account holders what happens next. We will not move your account into a paid service without asking you.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you can ask us to:
- tell you what data we have about you and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it;
- stop or restrict using it, or object to how we use it;
- give it to you in a portable format.
In Japan, you can request disclosure, correction, addition or deletion, suspension of use, and records of third-party provision of your retained personal data, as APPI provides.
To delete your account, use Delete account on your account page. It removes your account, projects and notes. For anything else, email games@warweaverstudios.com from the address on your account. We may ask for information to confirm a request is yours. We answer within one month and do not charge a fee.
You can also complain to a data protection authority, for example the authority in the EU country where you live, the Information Commissioner's Office in the UK, or the Personal Information Protection Commission in Japan. We would appreciate the chance to fix a problem first.
Children
AskJev is a tool for game developers. You must be 18 or older to use it, as our terms say. If you believe someone under 18 has created an account, contact us and we will delete it.
How we protect data
- Access: only our team can reach AskJev's data, through key-based access to our server.
- Technical: all traffic is encrypted (HTTPS). Passwords are stored as one-way hashes. Sign-in and email links expire after 30 minutes. AskJev's database is separate from our games' systems and is not reachable from the internet.
- Minimisation: we log errors without emails, passwords, or the content you enter.
If a data breach puts you at risk, we will tell you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.
Changes to this notice
We will update this page when AskJev changes, and show the new date at the top. If a change affects how we use your account data, we will email account holders before it takes effect.
